Cosy Up For Winter

Can you believe how chilly it's getting out there? With the clocks going back, it feels like we're in for some seriously dark mornings and early evenings.

Personally, I find it tough - it's like we should all just crawl into bed and wait for spring, right? I don't know about you, but I much prefer being outside in the fresh air than stuck indoors. Unfortunately, the gloomy winter weather doesn't always cooperate with that plan.

So, let's chat about ways to make the most of our time at home in a positive and creative way. I mean, after the rollercoaster that was 2020, we should be pros at this by now, right?

As much as I love a good Netflix binge, I struggle to just sit still. I'm always multitasking - working on a crochet project, tinkering on my laptop, you name it. There are only so many TV episodes I can watch before I start feeling antsy.

Plus, let's face it, it's not exactly the most productive use of my time.

So, what are some of your favorite ways to stay busy and creative at home during the winter months? Let's share some ideas!

Learn a completely new craft or try out a new technique to take your skills to a new level

I like to think of myself as a fairly compatent artist who enjoys working with different materials and techniques.

But you know what? There's still so much I want to explore!

Though I don't think glass blowing is a safe thing to try at home!!!

One technique I'm super excited to try out is encaustic art. It involves using beeswax to blend colors and attach items to create stunning paintings.

I've already got a bunch of tools and materials at home, so I'm thinking of making it my winter project.

How cool does that sound? Can't wait to dive in and see what I can create!

Make Cosy Crochet Blankets

Crochet is such a peaceful and enjoyable hobby! There's nothing like snuggling up with a cozy blanket that you made yourself.

I remember crafting a lovely mermaid blanket for a friend's little one a while back, and it's been a hit ever since. Of course, it's a bit too small for me to use, but that's all part of the fun! Don't worry, there are plenty of adult-sized mermaid blanket patterns out there too.

If you're feeling a bit unsure about trying out a new pattern, why not start with a small square?

You can mix and match different squares to create a stunning, colorful blanket that's all your own.

Batch Baking for the Freezer

If you're like me and haven't had much time for baking during lockdown (I did manage to make the classic lockdown banana bread once though!), why not dedicate a day to making lots of cakes and cookies to stock up your freezer?

It's a great way to have a sweet treat ready whenever you fancy one! There are two simple ways you can do this.

The first option is to bake the cakes or cookies, slice them up into single portions, and pop them in the freezer. When you're ready for a treat, just defrost (I usually use the microwave because I can't wait!) and warm them up if needed.

The second option is to prepare the batter or dough, divide it into portions, and freeze them. Then, whenever you want a freshly baked treat, just take out as many portions as you need and bake them straight from frozen.

It's a convenient way to have delicious homemade goodies on hand whenever you want them.

Homemade Gifts for Friends and Family

Don't you just love giving gifts that feel extra special? I sure do!

Whether it's a homemade batch of soaps and lotions or some delicious sweet treats, it always warms my heart to see how much they're loved.

I've had so much fun over the years creating personalized gifts for my friends and family. From chocolate truffles to cozy crocheted gloves and scarves, I've dabbled in a bit of everything.

Cakes, cookies, lip balms, body scrubs - you name it, I've probably tried making it! I like to keep things simple and budget-friendly when it comes to crafting these gifts.

I usually stick to projects that require minimal ingredients, stuff you probably already have in your kitchen or can easily find online for cheap. It's all about spreading joy and love through thoughtful gifts, right? So why not give it a try yourself?

Jam & Chutney Making

This time of year is abundant with an array of fruits and vegetables that are not only delicious but also nutritious.

If you find yourself overwhelmed with an abundance of apples, pears, and pumpkins like my mum, fear not!

By utilizing these seasonal treasures, we can ensure our pantry is filled with a bounty of flavors for the months ahead.

The majority of recipes are simple, requiring only basic and affordable ingredients, making them easy (& delicious) to create.

Try Out Some New Art Techniques

How about taking advantage of the cozy winter season to experiment with some fun new art techniques?

Most people have things like newspaper, glue & magazines or books around the house.

It's the perfect time to get creative and try something new. So grab your supplies and let's get artsy!

There are so many creative things to do with your time.

Whether it's getting creative or just organizing your stuff, it's all about finding joy and satisfaction in what you do.

I've actually put together a Pinterest folder with some cool ideas that you might enjoy trying out. I hope you find them as inspiring as I do!

And I'd love to see what you come up with, so feel free to share your projects and thoughts here on the blog
